HTML5 Updates are Here!

HTML5
HTML5 updates are rolling out! While all of our new WordPress themes are being coded in HTML5 at the start, we have well over twenty Genesis themes that were coded before the Genesis framework was capable of HTML5 coding.

Over the last few months we’ve been working very hard to upgrade all of our themes to HTML5. As of today, I’m happy to report that the following Genesis child themes have been converted to HTML5 and these themes are immediately available for purchase or download if you already own license.

What is HTML5 and Why Should You Care?

HTLM5 is the new standard for HTML. The previous version of HTML arrived back in 1999. In internet land that is forever ago! The internet has changed significantly since 1999 and there were a lot of things that needed a bit of sprucing up.

HTML5 themes offers:

  • Accessibility via semantics and ARIA
  • Video and audio support via tags
  • Simple doctype
  • Cleaner code (Genesis was already great)
  • Better support for local storage
  • More dynamic web applications
  • Backwards compatibility with older browsers
  • Mobile goodies
  • Schema
  • SEO (yes HTML5 upgrades tend to increase traffic)

What if You Already Own a Child Theme?

HTML5 updates are provided for free to all existing customers. Just head on over to your account and download the new files.

But before you update, please make sure you visit the online support forum and read through the change log and conversion instructions. Our resident support guru, Chris Cree, has tried really hard to make sure you have all the details you need for upgrading to HTML5.

What’s Next?

We will continue to upgrade our Genesis child themes and we are releasing more and more HTML5 updates each week. We are basing upgrades on demand, user requests, and any outdated plugin usage (aka our very first themes).

Hi – will your Mariah theme be updated soon?

    • 01.15.14 at 8:43 amRebecca Gill says

We’ve had numerous requests for Mariah to be updated and she is on the list of roll outs.

Currently we have these in the funnel:

Mariah, Augustus, and Frederick are almost done and will be the next themes to be released as HTML5 upgrades. This should be within the next week.

After those are complete we are moving on to Rasmus, Megan, Erik, Hans, Robert, Hunter, and Alexandra.

Once those are wrapped up will plow through the rest based on user requests.

Thanks. I really like Mariah. Genesis child themes that are Woocommerce ready are really hard to find. Plus, she’s cute 🙂

I think Mariah is cute as well. The theme is almost as cute as Mariah Humpries, which is who the theme is named after.

Yes Tony they are already available. Just access your account and log in. The download link in the post takes you there, as well as a link in our footer.

If there were 100 star rating I would leave 110. I have been building WordPress sites now full time for 7 years and in business for 12 and have never worked with such a solid company .
