If you’ve ever been to a WordCamp, you’ll know there are a lot of good presentations that cover a wide range of topics. If you’ve never been to a WordCamp, you simply don’t know what you are missing.
Before I went to my first WordCamp, I assumed the talks would be focused on code. I don’t code, so the idea of sitting through 45 minutes of PHP, CSS, Java, and API babble frightened me. I thought it would bore me to death.
But I was wrong!
WordCamps Offer More Than Code
There is so much more to WordCamps then discussions around coding best practices. There are a lot of presentations focused on coding, but this is just a section (we call them tracks) of sessions offered.
When you attend a WordCamp, you have an opportunity to learn about marketing, SEO, graphic design, development tools, and running a WordCamp business.
WordCamp presenters are there to educate and do so without compensation for their time or travel. We do so because we want to give back to the community.
While I have found new employees, clients, and partners through WordCamps – that is not the reason I attend one of these conferences. When I’m an attendee, I go to learn and connect with others within my community. When I go as a presenter, I go to give back to the community that has given me so much already.

I personally know five of the six presenters listed. They are friends and competitors and good people who I like and respect. They have a genuine interest in helping those around them.

I call WordCamps my “workcations” and I do this because I travel across the country to attend and I always come home feeling better than I did before I left. I am enriched, inspired, and energized for what lays ahead.
