A Little About LearnDash

We picked the LearnDash plugin for a few reasons. The developers know a lot about LMS systems and they have deep learning industry experience. They’ve consulted on learning programs for Fortune 500 companies and the U.S. Government. Their example client list includes companies like Dow, Timken, Harman, 3M, and the government agencies like the Department of Defense. It’s also just a great plugin that is feature rich and offers lots of functionality.

I’m going to warn you that setting up a training system in WordPress isn’t for the faint at heart. There is a lot that goes into it and when we first started working with the LearnDash plugin, I was a bit overwhelmed. But this happens with any large plugin that offers a lot of functionality.

My suggestion would be to have your courses and lessons mapped out prior to jumping into the plugin. This will provide a roadmap to follow. Next I would suggest you download the LearnDash demo data and import that so you can see how they’ve used the system. Once we did this the plugin made a lot more sense to me and it was much easier for me to follow along.

If you like our Derrick theme and you don’t want to use it with an LMS plugin, that’s okay. You can purchase and use it as is without ever touching LearnDash or iThemes Exchange.

Note: If you’re an existing Web Savvy fan, you might be wondering who the real Derrick is and why our new theme is named after him. Derrick is my little cousin and just an all around good guy. He didn’t inherit the sassiness from our Grandmother like I did, but he did receive his mother’s kind heart. He has a strong love of God and family and I was thrilled when he reentered my life as an adult.
