When my client and friend asked me to come onto his podcast, I was eager to accept. Not just because Pete’s a great person, but because I’ve always been very open about my life and I’m happy to share it with others.
Life is messy and life is hard. For some of us, that messiness can present some significant hurdles. But hurdles and life’s complexities don’t have to stand in the way of success. I found that out early in my career and I always welcome a chance to remind others of this as well.
On Pete’s podcast, I share my story of becoming a ward of the state at age eleven, putting myself through college, and working my tail off post-college to secure simple things like an apartment, food, and medical insurance. We talked about my grandmother, who played a pivotal role in teaching me the value of forgiveness, the importance of hard work, and the gifts you can discover in adversities.
Since Pete is a recruiter and an educator, we discussed my life after I graduated college. We walked through my first gig at Accountemps, my first full-time position at a small technology company, my time in the ERP industry, and my more recent years as a business owner and SEO consultant.
At the heart of Pete’s work at zengig.com is his desire to help people find their perfect position, their ideal side gig, or even an exciting career as an entrepreneur. My balance of SEO consulting and running an alpaca farm is a perfect example of finding your “zengig” and it is the exact story Pete wanted to share with his YouTube audience.
Passion for what you do transcends the conventional feel of work or the routine nature of a job. When you’re deeply immersed in something you love, it elevates your performance, not through obligation but through sheer enthusiasm. It’s about waking up with it on your mind and drifting off to sleep with creative ideas still swirling in your head. It’s about building and growing and discovering the best version of yourself. It’s about finding that zen within your career life.
Whether you love technology, or alpacas, or a little bit of both, I hope you enjoy Pete’s podcast and my story.
